Hydroseeding to Grow Grass on Large Lots and Steep Slopes

Spraying New Grass Across Northeast Georgia Properties

Hydroseeding sprays a mix of seed, mulch and water over bare soil to grow new grass. The mulch holds moisture around the seed and keeps it in place. It covers big areas and steep banks much faster than spreading seed by hand. It also tends to need less watering than plain seed and comes in more evenly.

Weather Tech Roofing is based in Elberton. We hydroseed for homes, farms and businesses in Washington, Lincolnton and Tignall. We cover graded land and new lots across Northeast Georgia. When we grade a site, we can seed it as part of the same job.

What's Included

What Goes Into Our Hydroseed Mix

We prep the ground, mix the slurry in a tank and spray an even coat. Slurry is the wet blend of seed, mulch, fertilizer and water. On slopes, we add tackifier, a glue that helps hold the mix in place in rain. Hydroseeding suits the big, rolling lots found all over Northeast Georgia.

Why Spray Seeding Works on Big and Sloped Ground

Even Cover Without Bare Streaks

The spray lays seed and mulch in one even layer. Hand-spread seed tends to clump in some spots and miss others. Even cover helps the grass fill in at the same pace across the area. That is why our local crew sprays seed instead of spreading it by hand.

Prepping the Ground Before We Spray

Seed roots best in loose, smooth soil. We loosen hard ground and rake out rocks and ruts before spraying. On graded sites, we finish the grade first so water drains away from the new grass.

Seeding by the Season

Tall fescue does best seeded in September or October in Georgia. Warm-season grasses like common Bermuda go in during late spring and early summer.

Hydroseed for Erosion, Big Lawns and New Lots

Graded banks, road cuts and ditch slopes need cover fast before storms wash them out. Large home lots and pasture edges can be seeded with far less labor than laying sod. New construction sites use hydroseed to cover bare dirt once building is done. Steep banks behind homes are easy to reach with a spray hose.

Slope changes the mix. Steeper ground gets more mulch and tackifier so the slurry stays put in a downpour. Flat lawns need less, so the focus there is an even, full coat. Very steep or wet banks may also need other erosion control while the grass fills in.

  • Freshly graded slopes and banks that need cover before rain
  • Acreage, large yards and pasture edges too big to sod
  • Ditches and swales along driveways and farm roads
  • Steep, hard-to-reach banks behind homes and businesses

How long does hydroseed take to sprout?

Under good conditions, tall fescue seed sprouts in 5 to 10 days. Warm soil and steady moisture help it along. Most fescue lawns are ready for a first mowing 2 to 3 weeks after seeding.

When should you hydroseed tall fescue in Georgia?

September or October is the best time to seed tall fescue in Georgia. Seed planted earlier faces summer heat and disease. Fall seeding gives young grass cool months to root before summer.

How often should you water new hydroseed?

Water new hydroseed lightly every day for the first three weeks. Keep the top 1 to 2 inches of soil moist but not soggy. Georgia allows watering new seed at any hour for 30 days after it goes in.

Can you hydroseed Bermuda grass?

Yes, common Bermuda grass can be grown from hydroseed. Most hybrid Bermuda types are planted as sod or sprigs instead of seed.

Will heavy rain wash away new hydroseed?

Mulch and tackifier help hold hydroseed in place through most rain. A hard storm can still thin out spots on steep slopes. Thin spots can be resprayed once the weather settles.
